TIMEX Connection: TS1500, Pt. 2

Date: June 17, 2023

In this second episode of “Timex Connection,” João Diogo Ramos (LOAD ZX Spectrum museum founder) and David Anderson (book author and founder of the timexsinclair.com website) examine both hardware and documentation related to the Timex/Sinclair 1500.

The episode begins with David showcasing a chronological collection of SCLD (Semi-Custom Logic Device) chips from NCR, dating from early 1983, which were used to replace the ULA in the TS 1500.

The main focus shifts to reviewing historical documents from 1982-1983, including internal memos between Timex engineers like Lou Galie discussing RAM pack compatibility issues, cost reduction efforts, and technical specifications. Key discoveries include evidence that the original 1500 concept was essentially an upgraded 1000 in the same form factor, and that Portugal played a significant role in developing the final keyboard design and form factor.
