João Diogo Ramos (LOAD ZX Spectrum museum founder) and David Anderson (book author and founder of the timexsinclair.com website) bring you a new Youtube show, called TIMEX Connection, that delves into the world of TIMEX computers.
Timex Portugal emerged as a crucial hub: beyond assembly it hosted engineering and quality control teams that adapted designs, supplied prototype work and manufactured large volumes of Sinclair-derived machines international markets. The Portuguese operation provided printed circuit boards, bespoke tooling and produced models destined for European markets.
The Timex/Sinclair 1500 (TS1500) stands out as an adaptation of the TS1000 concept with a proper keyboard, built-in 16K RAM and cartridge support (1510) to address reliability, loading and usability issues. Variants and production runs from Portugal included multiple PCB and ULA combinations; the TS1500 reflects Timex’s pragmatic approach to cost reduction.
