Jeff Fetta had s Sinclair display with seven machines: a Sinclair QL, a ZX Spectrum fitted with a Harlequin board, a Timex/Sinclair 2068, a ZX81 with a Memotech keyboard, a ZX80, a Timex/Sinclair 1500, and a Memotech MTX 512. He also had Timex hardware boxes, period manuals, and reference books. The Cromemco system and the fiftieth-anniversary Zilog poster visible at the right edge of the table photograph belonged to the neighboring exhibit.
Jeff connected the ZX81 to a 2050 modem and to live telephone service on the show floor. Another exhibitor hosted a Bywater BASIC server, and the ZX81 was used to dial into it over the course of the show. Running the original modem software, the machine got mostly online, with some challenges due to a mismatch between the digital telephone system and the analog modem.
The Memotech MTX 512 drew particular interest. Memotech established itself in the Sinclair market as a peripheral manufacturer, producing RAM packs and keyboards, before moving into complete systems. The machine is familiar to many from its appearance in Weird Science, where it was shown with the floppy disk expansion unit.
