Timex/Sinclair Online User Group meeting June 26, 2022

Date: June 26, 2022

In this week’s meeting of our group, we were joined by Lon Hildreth, a former Timex programmer. Lon worked at Burroughs, with Lou Galie and Scott McCourt, prior to joining Lou and Scott at Timex. Lon earned his undergrad degree in computer science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a school noted for its exceptional and influential Department of Computer Science.

At Burroughs, Lon worked on the OFIS-1 project, an “office of the future”.

At Timex, Lon worked on the Timex/Sinclair 2068, writing operating system code in Z80 assembler. One of his projects was attempting to implement CP/M on the TS 2068. At one point, he visited Digital Research to get their assistance on the project.

After being laid off at Timex, Lon worked at Compugraphic for a number of years, then moved to Aries, where he’s been for the majority of his career.

Tim Horner told us about work he did on ZMakeBAS to support the TS 2068. ZMakeBAS lets you type in programs in as ASCII and convert to TAP files for loading into the 2068. https://github.com/ohnosec/zmakebas
