Frogger for the TS2068: guide frogs across a road of traffic and a river of logs and diving turtles to the five homes at the top before the time runs out, avoiding snakes and crocodiles. The game offers one or two players and a starting round from 1 to 5, and asks “Music? (Y or N)”. Bonuses are given for eating an insect (200), rescuing the lady frog (200), each frog brought home (50) and filling all five homes (1000), plus a time bonus. Pressing ENTER at the prompt saves a copy of the game to tape.

Timex’s product listing says that it plays like the arcade game but without sound. The tape file name in the archive credits Sega.

Program Analysis

The BASIC loader frogger sets a green border and paper, loads a 6,144-byte screen block into the display file (pixels only, so the colours come from the paper already set), loads the 32,608-byte fbytes block at 32768 and starts it with PRINT USR 32768.

Notable Techniques

  • The machine code still carries assembler label names such as LOGDAT, FIXLOG$, SETTIME, SNK1DAT, SNK2DAT and TIMEDEC, which appear to be leftovers of the source’s symbol table.

Plays like the arcade game, but without sound. You must avoid traffic, snakes, crocodiles, and treacherous diving turtles by “hopping” the frog.
