Timex Computer Corporation announced February 22 that they were withdrawing from the home computer market. The announcement was a big blow to those who have worked hard to support their fine computers.

Presumably the reason for the withdrawal was that the company figured that they could not make enough money under the present circumstances. Timex is a closely held company that reports as little about its finances as possible; so no information is available about any possible loses its computer arm might have had. It was known that many dealers were dissatisfied with relations and that there had been quite a bit of high level personnel turnover in the computer division.

It has been estimated that about 200,000 Timex 2068’s remain to be sold. Efforts will be made to keep the price as high as possible, but some bargains are sure to be had. QZX has been able to find no estimate of the number of Timex 1500’s left and has no idea of the availability of T/S 1000’s. W6FGE sent us a copy of an ad in the March 10 issue of Nuts and Bolts which offered TS1000’S for $13 without accessories. The ZX81 had long been absent from the market.
