It is sometimes hard to keep all the frequencies used in RTTY work straight. There are four main types of frequencies; word frequencies, shift frequencies, mark and space frequencies, and transceiver frequencies.
The most important frequency is that at which the data is sent. The most common frequency is 60 words per minute. It is difficult for mechanical RTTY printers to change frequency and most amateur mechanical printers run at 60 wpm. With computers it is easy to change speed, but most use 60 wpm to be compatible with the mechanical printers. Some ASCII work is done at 100 wpm. Other rates used include 67, 75, and 150 wpm.
