We lead off this issue with the exciting news that finally you can use your QL for telecommunications. We have successfully connected a modem using a special piece of hardware. This adapter plugs into serial 2 and can be set for either 300 or 1200 baud. The other end has a standard DB-25 male connecter. We are currentiy using it with a Tandy DCM-3 modem from Radio Shack. The adapter plugs into the serial port on the modem.
A terminal package is also offered with the adapter. You can store passwords and logon procedures using the ”ALT” key and keys A-P. You can also upload and download and an editor allows you to compose your data or edit data coming in. CONTROL and the number ‘8’ key open the buffer so that what comes in to your screen is automatically written at the same time to microdrive two. CONTROL plus the ‘9’ key closes the buffer. However, once it is closed, if you reopen the buffer with the same cartridge in drive 2, it will overwrite the existing data so be careful.
